MAJOR

Major is a 3 year old American Bulldog (possibly a cross, opinions are divided). He came to us with only housetraining in place - he had been encouraged to lunge and pull and generally make his young owner look "hard". A lot of work has gone into persuading Major that there is a different way to behave but he is an eager pupil and now happily mixes on and off lead with other dogs. He is walked on a Halti simply because he is so keen to be out and about, however once he has calmed down he responds to the "if you pull I turn and walk the other way" when he is just on a collar and lead. He knows "sit", "wait", "no" but because the world outside the run is so exciting he can forget for a while until the initial excitement has worn off. Unfortunately in the kennels it is just not possible to devote a couple of hours at a time to him, we are sure that given 1:1 for a couple of hours will result in a beautifully behaved pet. We get the impression that he has possibly been hit in the past as he cringes if told off (verbally). He is a big, bulldozer of a dog who absolutely adores people of all sizes and ages. He was with me on a meet and greet when a small child ran across a road behind me and waved his arms in Major's face - Major just wagged his tail and snogged the boy. He is interested in cats but in a "what's that" curious way, not anything nasty - but if they run he will chase them. The only danger with Major is he could either snog you into a soggy mess or he could knock you flying with his tail.
